The Diaphragm is well known as the primary muscle used for breathing. However, it is also a central player in the function of the core through its close interaction with the abdominal wall and pelvic floor. Good quality diaphragmatic function is essential both for breathing and breathwork practices, and for dynamic core stabilisation during movement and exercise.
This 90min workshop provides a practical introduction to the dual function of the Diaphragm in breath and movement. We will cover:
· A 3D approach to diaphragmatic breathing, moving beyond just “belly breathing”.
· Practical techniques for exploring the relationship between the Diaphragm, abdominal wall and pelvic floor.
· Strategies for utilising diaphragmatic breathing for relaxation and recovery.
· Efficient activation of the abdominal wall for dynamic core stability during movement.
